The BRL of Texas logo is a five-pointed star divided into red, white and blue sections. The left side of the star is dark blue with a white star within it. The right side is divided horizontally: the top half is white, and the bottom half is red. Across the white section of the star are the letters "BRLT" in all caps. Below these letters are corresponding Braille dots that represent the same four letters.

Our Mission

The mission of our national organization, the Braille Revival League and the Braille Revival League of Texas is to preserve, promote and value braille as an essential mode of communication and vital path to literacy for people who are blind or have low vision.

Is Braille Relevant?

“The legacy bequeathed to us by Louis Braille is that his code not only makes writing and reading accessible, it is the key to equality of opportunity. When we can write something down and read it back, when we know how to spell, when we can discern the way a document is laid out, when we can create priceless memories that will last a lifetime by reading bedtime stories to our children or grandchildren, we have equipped ourselves with a skill that significantly narrows the chasm of opportunity.”

“Access to information is essential to full participation in our communities, and Braille is the very foundation of literacy for blind and low vision students and adults. Braille plays a vital role in education, employment, and independence for people who are blind or have low vision. Braille can be the difference between dependence and freedom.”

Word of the Week

Word Of The Week is a braille game you can play from the comfort of your home. Each Monday, we will post the number of letters and braille dots in a specific word we have chosen. You try to guess what the word is and make a list of all the words you can think of that could be the word we chose. Come back next week to see if you were right and get the new challenge. Have fun!
